Moving on Up!

Ben and I are moving to our own site!  This is going to be the last post here at WordPress.com — if you’ve enjoyed reading our posts, seeing my sketches, and reading “The Year of the Dragon,” all that comic-y goodness is going to be consolidated at Voyager Comics Online!   It will have the blog with musings and drawings, as well as all our future comics.  Actually, it has all the old stuff, too, since this entire site has been migrated there already.

If you’ve subscribed to updates here or followed this blog, please follow us to our new site.  This site will still be here, but only to direct newcomers to our permanent site.  So update your bookmarks, RSS feeds, and anything else you’ve got on us. Next Monday we’ll be starting our next story, the first chapter of a long, on-going story, the eponymous “Voyages.”  See you over at our new home!

Meta-Comic Interlude: “The Problem of the Donkey”

Although “The Year of the Dragon” wrapped up last week, we’ve got one last story to tell about the dragon and the dog and the boy — a bit of meta-comic making-of chibi silliness called “The Problem of the Donkey.”  I hope everyone enjoys this little excursion into self-indulgent introspection.  This time next week we’ll be kicking off “Voyages,” our on-going fantasy story, which will be updating weekly, and launching at our brand-new web-site: Voyagercomicsonline.com!  (In fact, the above link points you there, so I guess it’s sort of launching now?)

So if you follow or subscribe to our comic over at InkOutbreak or our blog here, update your links, RSS feeds, bookmarks, carrier pigeons, pneumatic mail tubes, et cetera, because the new site is rolling both into one.  You can keep up with ideas, musing, sketches, and ideas, as well as read comic updates every Tuesday!  Doesn’t get much better than that.  Ben’s already got a post up there, and all the comics and drawings you loved here have been migrated over, so what are you waiting for?  Go read the newest comic at the new site!

Final Page of “Year of the Dragon” Online Now!

And that’s it — our “Year of the Dragon” officially wraps up today with page 21. (okay the story was pretty much over, but everyone likes a good splash page.)

Thanks so much to everyone who has read the comic, checked out the blog, or followed us on Facebook.  (If you haven’t, go “Like” us now!)  We’re taking Friday off, but check back in a week for a final, light-hearted dragon-related meta-comic (wow, that’s a lot of hyphenated modifiers there).

In two weeks, we’ll be starting a new, on-going series, the eponymous “Voyages.”  The other exciting news is that we are also launching our very own web-site in the next few days, so please follow us over there as soon as we have it up and running.

Thanks for sticking around!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

It’s my dad 63rd birthday today, so I drew him a picture of our family as a present.  I sent him the original (huge) file so he could print it out if he wanted, but I thought I’d share it with you all as well.  I’ve thought that maybe I could sell cartoon portraits of families through Etsy.  Anyone think that would be a viable business?

Super Nat & Ba-Nat

Continuing my current kick of my cute kids as superheroes.  A small, technical artistic change — I tried coloring the lines for the first time.  The other drawings have solid black outlines, while these are colored to match the fill.  Its subtle, but I think its sort of makes it looks nicer.

I should really spend my free evenings focusing on our story . . .

The Real Life Ba-Nat

Just so the legion of Ba-Nat fans can have some point of comparison, here’s the real life Ba-Nat: my daughter Angelica.    My cousin Carl bought her a “My First Batman” book about a month ago, and ever since she’s been obsessed.  She began demanding the “Ba-Nat” book every day, then became obsessed with the classic Adam West Batman TV Show.  Then we bought her a Batman costume in anticipation of Holloween, but she saw it and has insisted on wearing it almost every day since.

More Ba-Nat!

I’m really enjoying drawing Angelica as “Ba-Nat.”  Not only is it incredibly cute (I may be her biased dad and the illustrator, but I’m pretty sure its objectively true), but the simple lines and solid colors is a nice change from the pages I’ve been doing for “Voyages.”  Also, splash pages and single-hero action-shots are always a lot easier to conceive and execute than an actual narrative.
